Trevor Waurechen
Trevor Waurechen is a multidisciplinary artist whose career has always been defined by its plurality. A graduate of the Ontario College of Art & Design, Trevor began his career as a commercial illustrator, working with clients including the Toronto Star, Canadian Living, and Globe and Mail, while simultaneously creating print and online comic book stories of the mundane and the extraordinary in everyday life. Later, printmaking became Trevor’s focus, coupled with painting, and various print-based products including gift wrap and greeting cards. In recent years, Trevor has become known for his interactive light-based installation works, which have been exhibited across Canada. As a compliment to this practice, Trevor has been
producing small-scale sculptural works including candles cast from these same forms. As diverse and varied as Trevor’s practice may seem, his works have remained consistently focused on the exploration of communication, often through audience interaction, response and interpretation. It is Trevor’s belief that while an artist can bring intention to a work, it is the audience who assigns meaning. This interpretation, or, often, misinterpretation, informs Trevor’s approach to successive works, creating a necessary feedback loop of artist, audience and inspiration.
